Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanzaa oh my! With so many opportunities to overindulge on delicious food, it’s no secret why weight loss is always one of the most popular New Year’s Resolutions. Every year the same goal seems to come around yet for most of us, it never seems to be truly achievable. Are you tired of putting weight back on after losing it? Are you tired of eating tasteless food and taking diet pills? Are you frustrated that you can’t seem to ever lose weight? Are you sick and tired of the same New year’s Resolution? Good. You came to the right place. It’s time to be sick and tired no more. This is how to lose weight.

Learning how to lose weight isn’t rocket science, but it is multifaceted. If you really want to change your body and keep it that way, you have to change your lifestyle. Now we aren’t suggesting you go storm into your office and quit your job (please don’t). Our solution does not require that much change. Just some hard work and commitment to a proven method that has worked in the past.

At Train Hard Win Big, we believe people don’t understand how to lose weight partially because they have too narrow a scope. You don’t just want to lose weight. You should aim to lose weight AND build muscle AND increase bone density AND prevent injury AND have proper nutrition. We know it seems like a lot, but every year all of our clients begin with your same skepticism. By the end of the year, we have transformed them into believers. The clients that stay with us and truly commit to the workouts are the ones who see real results.

Has willpower been an issue in the past?

Figuring out how to lose weight and following a proper nutritional diet can take a lot of self-discipline and restraint. Don’t worry. This time around, you won’t have to do it alone. Train Hard Win Big utilizes a group class structure and collaborative mentality to help you get focused and stay focused.

Barry Swanson, the long time owner and operator of Train Hard Win Big strongly believes in the group approach. Sometimes the best inspiration to keep running or push one more rep is the person next to you. At our gym, you will always have someone by your side. Motivating you to push harder and go farther. That is the Train Hard Win Big DIfference.

But how will Train Hard Win Big help me to lose weight?

We specialize in a unique style of athletic and personal training. At Train Hard Win Big, we use HIIT. That stands for High Intensity Interval Training. We use this method to help our clients to build muscle, lose fat, and keep a healthy heart. We complement this strategy with more traditional weight training to maximize improvement to your image. Our clients don’t just lose fat. They replace their fat with hardy muscle which generates a full, attractive and healthy figure.

Reasons to get in shape

We probably don’t have to answer this for you. Honestly. What isn’t a reason to get in shape?

Getting in shape and staying that way has a multitude of advantages spanning over nearly every aspect of human life. First of all you will feel better. Looking at your reflection in the mirror allows you to admire your progress. You should be proud of the person you are and the the physically fit body you now have. This immense boost to your confidence and self esteem can change your life.

With a spike in self esteem and confidence, you will quickly have better luck in the dating or relationship realm. If you are already married or in a committed relationship your partner is sure to notice your improvement. They will be more emotionally and sexually attracted to you which will likely lead to more affection and physical interaction. All good things. If you are single, this new found confidence will allow you to put your best foot forward on dates and demonstrate the best of your personality.

Learning how to lose weight and transform it into muscle will also make you a much healthier person both now and years into the future. Liberating your body from the task of carrying around extra pounds and reducing the amount of fat surrounding your heart can increase your lifespan by preventing heart disease and other detrimental conditions such as diabetes. Keep in mind that you aren’t just living for you. Even if you don’t have children of your own, there are always family and friends that want you around. Stay in shape and live a long healthy life.

Another benefit of becoming physically fit is that it simply makes life easier. Everyday tasks and occasional chores like moving furniture become much less of a hassle when you can lift boxes and zip around the house with ease. Being able to lift heavy objects and move things around also helps you to prevent injury. The stronger you are, the less likely you are to throw out your back. Especially when we have you happily lifting things twice the weight of that table in no time.

Healthy people also save money. Learning how to lose weight can help prevent costly medical bills, surgeries, and additional services you may otherwise require later in life. Slim down and tone up. You are doing yourself a huge financial favor. Come to think of it, our gym services may pay for themselves. Maybe next time we should lead with that.

Did we mention you will also feel better? Cardio and physical exercise will be a breeze. You will love what the mirror has to show you.
You did it it. Maybe you don’t know why or maybe it was an accident. But you did it. You volunteered to coach your kid’s sports team. Now you feel like you bit off more than you can chew and you’re overwhelmed. Or not. Sorry to assume. Maybe you are a seasoned youth coach just looking to improve your game. Whatever brought you to this page, you are free to stop worrying. This list of tips should help you to turn your team around or just start the season off right. Learning how to coach kids can be frustrating at times, but it can also be extremely rewarding. Review our list. Soon wondering how to coach kids will become a thing of the past.

How to Coach Kids – Tip 1: Use Positive Reinforcement

Regardless of their age, everyone appreciates the occasional pat on the back. We all try to work hard and make our superiors proud, but people are busy and praise is in short supply. This tactic is especially effective among children. Even a little or periodic amount of sincere positive reinforcement can go along way towards encouraging beneficial behavior or trying to replicate strong performance. If a player scores, makes a shot, gets a good time, or performs well, make sure you reward them with a hefty dose of positive reinforcement. This simple gesture can mean a lot. You may be surprised at just how well young players respond to a simple “atta boy” or mention in a team meeting after a good performance.

How to Coach Kids – Tip 2:Make sure everyone is on the same page

Especially at the beginning of a new season or after a long break, it can be very effective to make sure that every player understands their role and responsibility to the team. Setting a team game plan and assigning every player a specific role or duty can help to avoid a lot of confusion down the road. This also provides each member of the team with a renewed sense of purpose because they now have a specific responsibility clearly outlined for them. This assures that everyone shares a common understanding of your expectations for the team and makes for one cohesive unit. When certain players inevitably make mistakes or deviate from their assigned role, you can revisit the previously established gameplan from the beginning of the season and help the team get back on track.

How to Coach Kids – Tip 3: Don’t pick favorites (Especially If Your Kid Is On The Team!)

This point can prove to be tricky, especially for first time coaches. Your whole life you have done everything in your power to be the best possible parent. Now your life’s calling seems to have been just flipped on it’s head. “Don’t” tell my kid that I love em?”, “Don’t tell my kid that they are superior in every conceivable way?” No. Please don’t, or at least don’t until you return home and no other team members are around. Your child may become confused when you seem to act differently in coach mode then you do in parent mode.

Simply explain that you have a responsibility as the coach or manager to mentor, assist, and teach all of the players and not just your offspring. If your child still has a really tough time adjusting to this new duality, take them out to their favorite restaurant or spend some quality one-on-one time with them. This should help to remind them that you still care deeply about them as a parent, even though coaching your own kid can be an exhausting balancing act.

Even if your child isn’t on the roster, it behooves you to stay neutral and avoid picking favorites. Coaches with favorite players usually inspire jealousy among teammates, frustration from other parents, and poor overall team chemistry.

How to Coach Kids – Tip 4: Solid yet simple strategy

These aren’t professional athletes you are working with. Or at least not yet. Your players can likely only perform to a certain level of ability. Drawing up a complicated strategy or mind- boggling playbook will only make their jobs harder. You may have outsmarted all of the other coaches in the league with a bold new strategy, but if your players cannot follow and execute your brilliant plan, it’s practically useless. No matter what sport you are competing in, try to keep your strategy simple. A complicated strategy can lead to confused players and costly mistakes.

How to Coach Kids – Tip 5:Unique instruction for each player

Picking up where our last point left off, not all of your players will be equally experienced or talented. As such, certain players may need specific independent instruction to help the team succeed. Obviously when the team is gathering as a whole, you want to relay one unified message. However, it will benefit both the individual player’s personal development and the team’s performance to give every player unique instruction specially catered to their skill level, ability, or understanding of the game. If you require extra assistance with the process, try reaching out to some of the other parents on the team. You are carrying the heaviest burden as the coach or manager. Most athlete parents understand this and should be happy to help with their own kid.

Still not confident in your team?

As important as strategy, gameplan, player relationships, team chemistry, and coaching style are to a team’s success, it is impossible to ignore that physical superiority also plays a major role in youth competition. The facts are simple. Some kids are bigger, faster and stronger than others. Even clubs with seemingly dominant strategies may struggle to succeed, if the physical fitness of their roster isn’t at an elite level. Maybe it’s time to stop wondering how to coach kids, and start asking how to train them.

Finally your calls for help have been answered. Train Hard Win Big can help your team to succeed. Whether you are coaching children, early adolescents, or teenagers, Train Hard Win Big’s team training and hands-on consulting may be just what your squad needs to dominate the division and claim a league championship.

Let them choose the sport.

The first thing you can do as a parent to make sure that your child’s youth sports career gets off to a good start is to let them pick which sport they want to play. When they are very young you can choose for them. However, when your child does inevitably pick a favorite sport, let them play. This can build rapport between you and your child by making them feel like they have more control and autonomy over their own life. Letting your kid choose which youth sport they want to play will also give them more motivation to succeed. We always perform better doing activities that we enjoy.

Be Supportive

This may seem like a given but in the heat of the moment it can often be forgotten. Remember to always be supportive of your child both on and off the youth sports field. Although it can be difficult, be supportive of your child regardless of their performance or the outcome of the game. As frustrating as it can be to see your child lose or underperform, make sure you are positive and reassuring after each game. Try to build them up and give them ways they can improve instead of tearing them down with criticism.

Make Sure They Practice

The old saying still rings true. “Practice makes perfect”. This is especially true in youth sports, as the basic understanding of the fundamentals can make all the difference. Make sure your child attends all team meetings and practices so that they are learning all of the strategy and fundamental skills the rest of the players are learning. Although attending these practices are essential, the effort doesn’t have to stop there. Help your child to continue improving by encouraging independent practice at home or apart from the team. This can help them to tune out the noise and just focus on their own improvement without constant comparison.

Give Them The Tools To Succeed

Without going overboard, you can still equip your child with the gear they need to succeed in youth sports. If they play baseball, get them a good glove that allows for more comfort and control when going up for a catch. If they play soccer or run track, make sure they have cleats that dig in and give them good traction. This will further demonstrate that you care about their success and could give them a newfound sense of confidence.

Dedicate Time

Our most valuable resource as human beings will never be money. It’s time. Dedicating your time to your child can help them to succeed. Obviously driving them to practice and games on weekends can be a big time commitment, but going above and beyond can really make a difference. Try to set aside some time to talk to your child about their sport.

Get a feel for what they think about it. What is their opinion of the team? Do they like the coach? Are they playing their desired position? All of these issues can help build a bond between you and your child and can lead them to further success by figuring out how to deal with challenges. Another fantastic way to dedicate your time is to practice with your child. Set up a back drop or goal in the backyard. Buy a hoop. Play the sport with your child. This could help them to practice against a real opponent and will be a nice change of pace from their independent drills. Who knows. It could even be fun.

Encourage Them, Don’t Threaten Them

Everybody knows that you catch more flies with honey than you do with vinegar. Positive reinforcement and constant encouragement can be crucial to help your child to maintain an optimistic attitude while competing in youth sports. In the same vein, try to encourage your child with goals or rewards instead of threatening them with punishment or even worse… Parental disapproval. In the short term in may seem like you are doing them a favor, but threats can really ruin a child’s attitude and sour your relationship with them. If they underperform, there are other ways to turn things around. Always try and stay positive. Ideally they will follow your lead.

Don’t Undermine The Coach.

When involved with youth sports, this is another thing parents are historically bad about. Try and learn to be supportive of your kid during games without undermining their coach. You may have to refrain from giving them additional guidance or advice during a game. What happens in the privacy of your own home is between you and your athlete. That being said, yelling out instructions on gameday and interfering with the game plan the coach has been working with all weak can be very frustrating for him. Additionally, if your sideline suggestions interfere with the coaching on game day, you run the risk of confusing your child with too many instructional voices. Be the best cheerleader you can be and let the coach do his job.

Tried these steps? Want even more?

We just have one question.

Is your child truly dedicated to their sport?

What if your child truly loves their sport? If that’s the reason they get up in the morning and can’t sleep at night, then you should help them to pursue their dreams. You may be wondering what more can you do as a parent? Even with the best cleats, glove, bats, sticks, racquet, and helmet your child still may not be among the best. What other moves can you make? Well, there is one big one.

Fortunately, you already gave your child the most important tool for athletic success at birth. Their bodies. Not all kids are made equal, and are certainly not trained equally. If you really want to give your child the best possible chance to reach their full potential and succeed, give them a professional athletic trainer. Not just any athletic trainer. Give your child the best athletic trainer.

If your child lives in or near Delaware and wants to succeed at youth sports more than anything in the world, they belong at Train Hard Win Big.

Sign up now and give your child the gift of a lifetime. A competitive edge.

It would be foolish to try and convince you that Train Hard Win Big is the only gym specializing in athletic training near Wilmington, Delaware. It makes a lot more sense for us to explain that are the best. Although there are a lot of companies offering athletic training, Train Hard Win Big has both a superior culture and regiment. Our commitment to excellence and proven track record are reason enough to get excited, but we enjoy building lasting relationships with our athletes that goes far beyond vendor and customer.

When you train with us, you become family. That’s why Founder and CEO Barry Swanson and the rest of the staff treat all of our members like family. Barry dedicates the same passion to training every member that he did to his own son. Those committed to a consistent workout schedule will notice improvements in their speed, strength and overall power. After some training with us, you will be stealing bases, winning races or causing fumbles in no time. The opponents won’t even know what hit em! Or they will… it was you.

Through drills and hands on training, Train Hard Win Big members will also develop core strength, agility and full body coordination. Such traits are applicable and beneficial to nearly any sport or competitive activity. That being said, we will always cater our athletic training to the specific needs and expectations of the athlete. Regardless of the sport you play, we will build a custom workout plan to help you to improve and elevate your game. Jump higher. Hit Harder. Run faster. Building better athletes. Train Hard Win Big has proudly trained multiple division 1 NCAA softball and baseball players including a 2-time Delaware Player of the Year and 2-time All-American.

Our state-of-the-art athletic training regimen has paid off for tons of athletes ranging from basketball, baseball, and soccer to contact heavy sports like football, fighting and boxing. We couldn’t be prouder of all of these athletes and hope to get more just like ‘em! As great as we do in all of these sports and competitions, by far our biggest area of success has been track and field.

Barry Swanson lives to help all athletes improve, but Track and Field training is personal to him. He was inducted into the Pennsylvania Track and Field hall of fame for his excellence as a coach. Thanks to Barry’s expertise, we have produced an impressive 34 State Champion Gold Medals in Shotput and a whopping 109 State Champion Gold Medals in Track and Field. This means 9 Penn relay champions, 5 national champions, and 2 NCAA track and field champions. Additionally we have won 11 indoor and 7 outdoor Pennsylvania team championships along with 5 indoor and 5 outdoor Delaware State Championships. Our training has influenced tons of young athletes and has produced championships transcending state boundaries. We have built champions before and we can do it again. Maybe our next champion will be you. After all, it is our job.

From learning to compete in little league, dominating in high school and acquiring athletic scholarships* to thriving in the NCAA and beyond, we take our athletes every step of the way. From beginning challenger to decorated champion.

Health. A universal word that has the ability to instill many different emotions among different people. For some it inspires hope and faith that they lead a happy and productive life which will continue decades into the future. For others health contains a far more uncomfortable connotation. Unfortunately health isn’t really an opinion based matter. You should be proud of your health and hopeful about your future. If your health worries you, that’s a problem. That being said, it is always counterproductive to point out problems without proposing a solution.

An active lifestyle and regular exercise can greatly improve your personal fitness and lifespan. Luckily the human body is pretty forgiving. It’s never too late to change your exercise routine and well, your life. Obesity and a sedentary lifestyle can lead to diabetes, high blood pressure, and a significantly reduced lifespan. With something as precious as your health, shouldn’t it be a top priority? For some people it is. For others, health and personal fitness is disregarded and forgotten. Regardless of which category you identify with, everybody can improve their fitness by increasing muscle mass and bone density while reducing stress and body fat with a personal trainer. Additionally injury prevention and nutrition are other essential aspects to personal wellness that are often forgotten when people prioritize work or school over exercise.

Not all people completely disregard their health and personal wellness. In fact many people join gyms or seek our personal trainers near their location to help them to stay in shape. The issue is not all gyms, trainers and healthcare services are created equal. Many health clubs and gyms merely fill a large room with workout machines and try to squeeze as many people inside as possible. The result is a profitable gym and many misled customers who are regularly taken advantage of. Consider the possibility that many people who pay for a gym don’t work out correctly or don’t have an adequate exercise routine to actually see real results. This cycle can continue for months or even years. Are you paying an expensive monthly fee? Are you short on results to show for your investment? It’s okay you aren’t alone. The frustration doesn’t have to continue. It’s time that you join a gym that actually improves your personal health and makes your life better. It’s time for results you can see and change you can feel.

The Four Pillars of Personal Health

Mind – Humans are interesting creatures. We rush to throw a bandaid on even the smallest cuts and superficial scrapes, yet we disregard or ignore many of the most harmful mental injuries. Maintaining good mental health and a positive mental attitude is essential to leading a happy and productive life. At Train Hard Win Big, we understand the importance of having a healthy outlook on life. That’s why in every adult training class, we make sure every one of our clients is as healthy on the inside as they are on the outside. The journey to positive mental health can be difficult at times, but we promise at Train Hard Win Big you will never have to do it alone.

Body – For many of us, the mirror is a crucial part of any household. It is the only piece of furniture that actually has an opinion we care about. When the mirror shows us something we don’t like, it can have lasting negative implications. Reducing body fat and building muscle is difficult and can take time, but anybody can improve their image with commitment, hard work and perseverance. Love handles? Beer belly? Arm droop? Stop worrying and start working. Train Hard Win Big is your solution for a healthy and complete body overhaul.

Spirit – in order to continue through pain and persevere among resistance and opposition during workouts, your spiritual torch must burn with brilliance and intensity at all times. To change your life, you first have to change your attitude. This isn’t something that comes from family, friends, or personal trainers. It comes from you. Train Hard Win Big makes sure that all of our clients are motivated, inspired, and excited to improve on a daily basis. Your outlook changes everything. Once you have mastered your own spirit, you can do anything.

Nutrition – You can exercise all day long, but nothing happens without good nutrition. The staff of Train Hard Win Big understand this, and we push for well rounded and beneficial nutrition every day. Adjusting your diet is a crucial part of personal transformation. Regardless of your weight, it is imperative to eat the appropriate amount of protein to increase your muscle mass while limiting carbohydrates, fats, and simple sugars to simultaneously reduce body fat. Nutrition can be a complicated topic, but at Train Hard Win Big we make it simple. We provide every client with the tools and knowledge they require to transform their diet and start building the body they deserve.
